Zapgnosis - the publishing arm of One Marketing Ltd was founded by Ian West. Ian was born and studied in Manchester, gaining a degree in art and design. He began his career, working in London as art director for one of the UK’s leading paperback publishing houses, Transworld Publishers, as well as working for some major advertising agencies. He has been responsible for some classic designs, including the book-jackets for Catch-22, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, The Dogs of War and many others. In addition to Transworld he has worked for Macmillan, Oxford University Press, Hamlyn and other paperback and hardback houses.
Qualifying in marketing, Ian then moved to the Midlands founding his own consultancy specialising in branding, identity and packaging, working on many major national and international brands. Ian is also a prolific illustrator and has worked on books, advertising and communications projects, video and information graphics.
As well as illustrating titles he has also written extensively. He is the author of children’s picture books, business and marketing guides, as well as contributing to magazines and online publications.
His current company, One-Marketing was founded in 2002 and has had a very focused approach to branding, digital and international marketing, with strategic alliances with some of the most forward thinking marketing services providers. One Marketing is a constant evangelist for digital marketing.
Coaching and training form a key part Ian’s activities, especially creativity and innovation training. In a knowledge-based economy creative and innovative thinking is vital to businesses in all sectors and across all departments. For over five years he has delivered training on behalf of UKTI to help British exporters market their products and services abroad.
With publishing still deeply ingrained, much of his current work is involved in writing and content creation and a number of new books are in the pipeline.
Ian also has a degree in Psychology, is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, a member of the British Psychological Society, the Market Research Society,and The Philosophical Society, and is on a regional committee of the Institute of Directors. He is active in marketing circles, an accomplished speaker and a visiting lecturer at the University of Warwick.
